Paragliding from Stol
A grassy ridge launch, reliable when the high mountains are out
Stol is the long grassy ridge that rises above Breginj, near the Italian border in the western Soča Valley. Gentler and lower than the high alpine sites, it is the most forgiving of our takeoffs and often the most reliable.
When the high mountains are capped in cloud or the wind is wrong up top, Stol's broad, open slopes frequently still offer clean, smooth flying. Ridge lift and gentle thermals make it an easy, comfortable flight, particularly for first-timers.
What you'll see
- A wide panorama down the Soča Valley toward Kobarid and the plain beyond
- Soft, open meadow launches with room to set up calmly
- Long, smooth glides and gentle thermals
- Patchwork farmland and the river threading the valley floor below
Conditions & timing
Stol's lower elevation and grassy launches make it our most flexible site. It flies across more of the year and in conditions that ground the higher mountains. Flights land in Kobarid.
