Matajur rises south of Kobarid, between the Soča and Nadiža valleys, on the border between Slovenia and Italy. The paragliding takeoff sits on the northern slopes at 1,304 m, a broad, grassy launch that opens straight toward Kobarid and the Julian Alps.

It's a classic ridge site: a wide meadow, dependable north-facing conditions, and a long glide back down to the valley. On clear days the view stretches from the high Julian Alps to the north to the Friulian plain to the south, and on the best mornings a sliver of the Adriatic on the horizon.

What you'll see

  • Kobarid and the Soča Valley directly below from the moment you launch
  • The Julian Alps ranged along the northern skyline
  • The Friulian plain and, on the clearest days, a sliver of the Adriatic to the south
  • A wide, grassy north-facing takeoff with reliable ridge lift

Conditions & timing

Matajur's north-facing takeoff works well when northerly or north-westerly winds are running through the valley, which is common across much of the season. Flights land in Kobarid.
